Green Day Magazine Ad- The difference between rap and indie

In this magazine advert it is very dark and the only colours are black, white and red, something that you would expect to see in this genre.

You also do not see the artist, something that you would expect with an indie band.

I also like the contrast of black and white, the background being all in black and the hand and text being in white. There might be a way for me to use a similar concept with my own work.
